Dr. William (Billy) Mitchell is an artist at heart and has always been intrigued by the unique harmony that exists between the arts and sciences. Growing up in central NJ, he developed a deep interest in orthodontics in high school. He found orthodontics to be a balance of both disciplines, as well as a profession where patient education and communication are paramount. Most importantly, he noticed how his very own orthodontic treatment had transformed his life and improved his self-confidence during adolescence. He received great mentorship from the orthodontists he met at that time and looked forward to pursuing a career in the field, where he, too, could craft beautiful smiles and act as a mentor and teacher throughout the process.
Dr. Mitchell attended St. Lawrence University (Here We Go Saints!) in upstate NY where he graduated with a B.S. and B.A. in Biochemistry and Music. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in NJ, receiving multiple awards and scholarships upon graduation. It was there that he also met his wife, Maelys. Afterwards, he worked as a part-time dentist while attending the Seton Hill Center for Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Western PA, where he completed both a yearlong internship and a two-and-a-half-year residency to earn his Master of Science and Certificate in Orthodontics. During residency, he attended the worldrenowned Charles H. Tweed Course, became certified in surgical diode lasers, and completed further coursework in surgical orthodontics and clear aligner therapy, among other subjects. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, and the ODK National Honors Society.
Dr. Mitchell holds many interests outside of his profession. He is a second-degree black belt in martial arts and enjoys traveling, biking, running, hiking, and playing piano and guitar. He even performed in live bands throughout college and dental school! Lastly, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their spoiled cat, Bella. Dr. Mitchell is thrilled to have moved to Southeast Florida, close to family and friends, and is excited to team up with Dr. Nicolas and his amazing staff.
