About orthodontics

Orthodontics can be a truly life-changing experience, and one we love to share with patients of all ages. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that all patients be seen by the age of seven to evaluate any growth problems that may be developing. Although we see many of our patients starting at age seven, we will only recommend limited treatment if there is an issue that can be most effectively treated at this age.

Many of our patients are monitored for growth and eruption of permanent teeth and we recommend orthodontics at the appropriate time. We see many adult patients that are looking to restore or enhance their smiles, and we love to offer many of them the option of either braces or Invisalign®.

Orthodontic treatment at Nicolas Orthodontics

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.

At Nicolas Orthodontics, we use many treatment modalities to most effectively treat all orthodontic issues at an appropriate time. Depending on the orthodontic issues of the patient, we may recommend braces or Invisalign. We may also recommend different types of appliances to create space for teeth, widen the jaw, address a deficient upper or lower jaw, or help with the relationship of the upper teeth to the lower teeth.

Our advanced technology

  • Diagnostics: Our 3D cone beam scanner helps us accurately diagnose each case. Using this technology, we can see exactly where all the un-erupted teeth, roots of the teeth, hard tissue, and soft tissue are located.
  • Advanced metal braces: In-Ovation® self-ligating brackets use a metal door instead of an elastic band to secure the wire to the bracket. Using this metal-to-metal interface decreases the friction of the wire sliding in the bracket, which means less force to move teeth which means a more comfortable and more efficient experience for the patient.
  • Treatment planning: Our iTero® digital scanner is used for many of our Invisalign patients. This means that each of our Invisalign patients has a scan instead of impressions. The scan is more accurate, comfortable, and efficient than impressions. Completing a scan for a patient also means that all the data is processed within 15 minutes of the scan, leaving our doctors to plan treatment faster, and the aligners can be manufactured and delivered to us quicker.

Getting started with braces

During the initial consultation appointment at our Boca Raton or Boynton Beach office, our patients are welcomed into our orthodontic family. The patient will be greeted upon arrival, given a tour of the office, and introduced to the staff and doctors. Once in the consultation room, one of our doctors will complete a comprehensive evaluation of the patient and discuss the orthodontic issues of the patient, giving recommendations for treatment. All the patient’s questions will be answered so that the patient feels knowledgeable and comfortable in making their orthodontic treatment decisions.

At Nicolas Orthodontics, Dr. Nicolas takes the time to personally explain all treatment options to the patient. After each patient leaves, we generate a letter summarizing what the doctor found, as well as treatment recommendations. This ensures that each patient fully understands the recommendations made.
